Some weddings stay with you because they’re beautiful. Others stay with you because of the people. This wedding at Villa Zosanelli has lingered in my mind for both reasons, but especially because of the heart behind it.
From the moment this couple first reached out, they had a clear vision for their day. Not in the sense of rigid timelines or overly structured plans, but in how they wanted the day to feel. They wanted their wedding to center their love, their community, and the people who have shaped their lives. And you could feel that intention woven throughout the entire celebration.
When I arrived at Villa Zosanelli, I immediately understood why they had chosen it. The property is pristine and lush, with tall pine trees and winding greenery that gave me the feeling of being somewhere in the Italian countryside. It’s peaceful and expansive in a way that makes everything slow down just a little. But what made the day so meaningful wasn’t just the setting – it was the way their community showed up to help bring the celebration to life. So many pieces of the day were created by the people who love them. A family member made the desserts. Her uncle built and crafted much of the decor. One of their loved ones created these beautiful little cups that guests took home as favors. There was a bespoke photo booth thoughtfully set up for people to capture memories together. Each detail carried a little piece of someone’s care and creativity.
There was also a small, incredibly tender corner of the wedding dedicated to honoring her dog and family members who had passed. Photos, treats, and meaningful objects filled the table. Guests paused there throughout the evening – remembering, smiling, sometimes tearing up. It was such a thoughtful way to hold space for the people and memories that are still part of their story.
And truly, emotion was everywhere that day.
There were so many tears, the kind that come when two people are deeply loved by the people around them. You could see it in the way friends spoke during toasts, in the long hugs between family members, and in the quiet moments when the couple simply looked at each other. As a San Diego wedding photographer, days like this remind me just how powerful weddings can be. They become this gathering point for everyone who has been part of your life; a moment where community, memory, and love all come together in one place. This wedding was easily one of my favorites from last year because it felt so intentional. Every piece of it reflected the people who helped shape their lives, and the result was a celebration that felt deeply personal and full of meaning.
